This Is Angelica Frey

I am so happy you’re here. I am an experienced multidisciplinary writer and editorial strategist in design, creative tech, commerce, the arts, and pop culture.

I am the co-author of Italian Disco Stories, a cult-favorite Substack publication with a focus on Italian, Italo and Euro Disco.

I write about consumer behavior and cultural trends across media, lifestyle, design, and CPG sectors, translating complex shifts into accessible insights for both strategic and editorial audiences. My clients include FutureCommerce, a thought leadership platform exploring the intersection of retail and culture; Canvas8, a behavioral insights consultancy known for its global research into consumer motivations; and Shopify, the leading commerce platform for independent brands. For Canvas8, I authored the report “Is Metacontent the Cure for Algorithm Fatigue?”, and for Shopify, I contribute both trend reports (“Collaboration Over Competition: Why Brands Are Joining Forces to Grow Their Audiences” and “The Rise of Merch: How Today’s Brands Turned Simple Swag Into Sought-After Collectibles”) and SEO-driven content aimed at merchants and brand strategists.

I also write about how one game, one subculture, and even one fringe aesthetic reached the mainstream: consider my Fast Company features “Why Disco Is Having A Moment” “2024 Was The Year of the Chad” and, most recently, “Sul sul! How The Sims influenced a generation of creatives”.

I have also been analyzing the branding and design systems of contemporary brands at BP&O and I am a JStor Daily news and feature-writer.

A sweet PSA: athough my pitching game is strong, and my brain is a bottomless wellspring of ideas, I am always eager to take on commissions if they align with my beats and interests. Do get in touch!
