Select Editorial Work

My editorial work mainly covers visual culture, especially as it intersected with pop-culture and our day-to-day lives. Select publications include The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, The Cut, Vulture, InStyle, Artsy, ArtNews, and Art & Object. A complete list of clips can be found here.

Europop

In the past five years, I have been exploring and celebrating the aesthetics of Europop culture. I wrote about the Eurovision performance of Greta Thunberg’s Mom for The Cut and about the importance of Schlager music for The Guardian. I explored the Italian variety show Stryx for Atlas Obscura, reflected on the importance of pop singer and entertainer Raffaella Carrà for The Guardian, and praised Italian ensemble comedies from the 80s for Hyperallergic. Most recently, I covered Italian Pop and Disco for Dirt, an eminent newsletter about entertainment.

Design and Aesthetics

I also write about design trends (see my piece on white floors for the WSJ Magazine or on the historical precedents to cottagecore for JStor Daily), about bizarre online phenomena, such as healers allegedly predicting COVID (InStyle), Seasonal Color Analysis coming back for the Instagram Generation (Jezebel) and Instagram now being a digital-curation medium (The Outline). I also love the art of animation: I recommend you rewatch Thumbelina (Vulture) and that you pay close attention to the nods to 90s haute couture featured in Sailor Moon (Jezebel)

Art and Artists

As a journalist, I mainly cover visual culture, especially as it intersects with pop-culture and our day-to-day lives. I am a regular contributor to ArtNews, where I routinely interview fine artists, animators, game designers, and jewelry designers about their process. I also frequently write for Art & Object, where my articles have more of an art-historical bend.
If you’re an artist with a cool project, or if you’re a press representative who wants to put their clients on my radar, please do not hesitate to contact me.
